It’s a stupid cliché, but cycling really did change my life

It was so good to have the chance to celebrate Bike Month with a little more normality this year, and we are thrilled to have had so many celebrating with us.
National Bike Month is promoted by the League of American Bicyclists and celebrated in communities from coast to coast. Established in 1956, National Bike Month is a chance to showcase the many benefits of bicycling — and encourage more folks to give biking a try. In 2021, we celebrated ways to #BikeThere during the month of May. There are so many ways to celebrate Bike Month and to #BikeThere: during Bike to Work Week (and Day!), biking to coffee or around the block, and biking for transportation. With a focus on individual and community wellbeing, we highlighted how you can #BikeThere during Bike Month. Whether you’re riding for fun, fitness or with family, or taking essential trips to work or shop, you are part of our movement for safer streets, connected communities, a healthier planet, and happier people. Our 2021 #BikeThereDFW Ride Challenge was a great way to celebrate #BikeMonth with the community and bike to places that you might normally drive to for a chance to receive some fun giveaways. This FREE program enrolled folks in a four-week experience in which they received weekly emails with tips, resources, a weekly bike challenge, and more to motivate them to #BikeThereDFW during Bike Month. Our friends at Bullzerk worked with us to create an awesome May is Bike Month t-shirt, and we will have them at events until we run. out!! As always, Bullzerk nailed it with the design, and the softest shirts around!! Bike to Work Week, and Bike to Work Day gave us a chance to share the joys of using the bike as a means of transportation. We were thrilled to have the chance to partner with Merit Coffee - Deep Ellum to have a Coffee Stop on the morning commute, and Four Corners Brewing Co. for a Happy Hour on the evening commute on Bike to Work Day! Thanks to all that came out and celebrated with us!! Welcome to all of our new Members that joined us during our Bike Month Membership Drive!! We are grateful for your support!! Make your voice heard in favor of a 3-foot passing law to protect Texas cyclists. From our friends at BikeLaw.com:
3-FOOT LAW FAILED IN 2019, LET’S SUCCEED IN 2021 The Texas legislature will in 2021 consider enacting a statewide 3-foot passing law for bicyclists. An identical bill was introduced in the 2019 session as House Bill 962, but it died in committee when the legislature adjourned. That bill offered clear guidance about the buffer necessary to legally pass a bicyclist: (1) at least three feet for a passenger car or a light truck; or (2) at least six feet for a commercial motor vehicle or a truck other than a light truck. The new, 2021 version of the bill, which will be filed as HB554, will be identical. For more information on the law and how to find your State Representative to let them know you want them to support this bill at the Bike Law blog post Bike Texas, the 86th Texas Legislature Regular Session, and Cyclists in Suits The 2021 Texas legislative session begins on January 12, and our friends at Bike Texas are prepared for online meetings and Zoom calls with legislators and staff from day one. They will be there to educate elected officials; push back against bills that are bad for biking, walking, and active transportation; and fight hard to make Texas a great place to bike and walk. They are also prepared to take Cyclists in Suits online this year, so we can participate from wherever we are. Cyclists in Suits has consistently been well attended by the North Texas contingent, and we hope to have an even bigger showing this year. We will keep you posted on the date for online training in late January, and Lobby Day sometime in February as those plans are finalized. Don't miss this chance to make a difference at the state level. UPDATED with dates and link to Register!! Virtual Cyclists in Suits, Texas Bike Lobby Day is scheduled for Monday, March 22, with Lobby Day training on Sunday, 3/21. Click here to get signed up to participate!! Lets make a strong showing from DFW!! League of American Bicyclists National #BikeSummit21BIKES: OUR VEHICLE FOR CHANGE:
22ND ANNUAL NATIONAL BIKE SUMMIT FEBRUARY 28 - MARCH 3, 2021 | ONLINE For 2021, the League is planning the biggest and best online bike event to date: the 2021 National Bike Summit! And of course, you are invited because you and other people who want to make biking better are what makes every National Bike Summit so powerful and so critical to enacting change at the federal level. The 2021 National Bike Summit will take place online, February 28 - March 3, 2021, with daily convenings beginning at 1pm ET / 10am PT. This year’s theme is “Bikes: Our Vehicle for Change” in recognition of the power of bicycling to move us forward, even in the most challenging of times. Every Summit is inspiring, and #BikeSummit21 will build our movement and propel us forward in making bicycling safer, more accessible, and more enjoyable for everyone. The virtual 2021 Summit will have plenty of networking opportunities, #bikejoy, and inspiring speakers. Plus, there will be powerful and valuable sessions to help you explore new perspectives on bicycling and how the bicycle, our vehicle of change, is helping create better and stronger communities across the U.S. Like every Summit, #BikeSummit21 will culminate with Lobby Day, a critical component in our shared mission to build a more Bicycle Friendly America for everyone. By registering for the Summit and taking part in Lobby Day, you’re adding your voice to our grassroots movement as we call on Capitol Hill for federal action to make biking better. Virtual Lobby Day will take place on Wednesday, March 3. The experience will be very much improved over last year’s abrupt shift to a virtual format. You must register for the Summit by February 17th to be included in Lobby Day due to our scheduling efforts with congressional offices. Members of the League can register for the entire Summit for $50. Non-members can register for $150 (or you can become a member for $40 and save on your registration fee!) They are also offering free entry to youth! Know a young person who wants to get involved in bicycle advocacy? This is the year to invite them to the Summit! Find out more and register at https://bikeleague.org/content/registration-now-open-2021-national-bike-summit While Bike to Work Day is normally held annually on the second Thursday in May, this year, the COVID-19 pandemic has necessitated its reschedule to September 22nd.
On this special day, and week of 9/20 – 9/26, BikeDFW and bicycling allies encourage everyone to #BikeThere, wherever that there may be. Bike to work; bike with friends; bike to an errand; bike to a Bicycle Friendly Business; bike around your neighborhood and back to your home. Any bike, anywhere, it all counts. We just want to bike together and inspire each other to do this simple act that means so much to our lives and our future. #BikesUnite How to Join the Fun We will not be co-hosting the traditional Energizer Stations with our friends at DART this year, but we have several ways for everyone to experience the joy of moving by bicycle.
