The Light It Up Project
BikeDFW's Bike Light Giveaway Program
Light It Up is BikeDFW’s initiative to share front and rear bicycle light sets with riders with unlit bikes through giveaways at pop up events throughout the year! All unlit cyclists who pass by our pop up go home with a bicycle light set and a set to share with someone they see riding unlit, and any cyclist that wants to take a set to share when they are out on the road and see someone unlit, are asked to take a set also. We also share lights with Bike Friendly groups to share with their community.
Since 2019 BikeDFW has given away more than 4000 free front and rear bike lights to the community!! We care about riders’ safety and education, and this is one of the most direct ways that we can interact with our community to provide that assistance.
Lightless riding is risky, and whether people are simply unaware, have forgotten their lights, or they cannot afford lights, we want to be sure that they are covered.
Consider making a contribution to BikeDFW today to help us get even more lights out to the community!

Education Scholarships
Bicycle Education Scholarships
Thanks to your generous donations, we have been able to establish a scholarship fund to defray the costs of the League Cycling Instructor certification course from the League of American Bicyclists. We host LCI Seminars every other year, with our next one coming up in Fall of 2026, and this fund allows us to assist interested parties in being able to afford the training.
If you are interested in information on the LCI Seminars and/or how to qualify for a scholarship please email: [email protected].
The Bike Scholarship Fund is also used to help offset the tuition of some of our classes, to make them more accessible to those who need assistance. The Fund is also used to purchase supplies and equipment for our classes.
Increasing the number of League Certified Instructors and making bike education accessible to everybody is a great way to promote cycling in our area. If you are interested in increasing cycling safety in North Texas, please make a tax-deductible donation by clicking on the link below.

Mobility Micro-Grants
Supporting projects and programs that are making DFW better and safer for alternative modes of transportation
In 2021, BikeDFW launched our inaugural Micro-Grant Program, opening up new funds to foster the growth of mobility initiatives across the Dallas-Fort Worth region.
The Micro-Grant Program provides financial assistance to support the implementation of creative projects that promote bicycling, walking, and the safety of vulnerable road users.
Our Micro-Grant recipients have included The Bike Gangs of Fort Worth and their Bike Shop in a Box, Walkable Arlington for tabling outreach events, and Lone Star Wheelers DipJar purchase. These Micro-Grants are small by design in order to support innovation and encourage groups who may have limited resources to dedicate towards fund development.
The micro-grant projects are created and implemented by the community groups themselves, with hopes of stimulating community action by engaging citizens in creative community betterment efforts, and generating real accomplishments citizens can take pride in.
