Careflight is a non-profit medical transport organization supported by North Texas health care providers including Baylor Healthcare Systems, JPS Health Network, Methodist Health Systems, Parkland Hospital, and Texas Health Resources. CareFlight membership programs provide coverage for the difference between health care insurance coverage and the actual cost of ambulance or air ambulance transport. Helicopter transport can cost $20,000 or more and is typically only partially covered by standard medical insurance.
CareFlight has been working with area cycling groups, including BikeDFW, to offer a highly discounted membership to bicyclists. We think this is a very worthwhile program, especiallay for people who ride in rural areas where an injury might result in a helicopter ride to the hospital. At $12 a year, this seems like an unbeatable offer. The normal cost is $49 a year.
