Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings rides to work for Bike to City Hall Day

A few of us from BikeDFW joined Mayor Rawlings, city Council Members Scott Griggs, Angela Hunt and Monica Alonzo, Bike Coordinator Max Kalhammer, and a cadre of bike supporters for Dallas’ annual Bike to City Hall Day. Council Members Delia Jasso and Sheffie Kadane were also there in support. The council expressed the city’s appreciation to Downtown Dallas, Inc. who supplied seed funding to get the initial stages of the Dallas Bike Plan off the ground.

While expressing his support for improvement in Dallas bike facilities (trails and infrastructure) and for the Safe Passing bicycle ordinance he introduced, the mayor mentioned that he had ridden his bike from his North Dallas home to city hall. We think that’s awesome!

We were excited by the support for cycling demonstrated by the city leaders today. Maybe, just maybe, Dallas has made it over the inertial barrier that has stymied incorporation of cycling into the city’s culture for so many years. Bike Friendly Oak Cliff and Council Member Scott Griggs put on a great show.
